Do You Have A Lost Or Found Pet?
The Cambridge & District Humane Society (CDHS) is contracted by the City of Cambridge for the Animal Control and City Pound contract.
Stray animals are housed at the shelter for a 72 hour redemption period
(not including the day of arrival or statutory holidays) in the hope, an owner will come forward to claim them.
All unclaimed animals are then assessed for adoptability after the redemption period based on their overall health and behaviour. This process can take several days to weeks to months depending on the needs of the animal. The CDHS is partnered with numerous rescue organizations to assist with animals that may not be adoption candidates within the shelter.
If you have found an animal and would like it picked up, please contact Animal Services Cambridge at 519-623-7722 x231 Animal Services operates 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
If you have lost or found an animal we urge you to contact the Lost Pet Line IMMEDIATELY at 519-623-7722 x223 and file a report as we may have your animal or have the owner information for the pet you’ve found.
Lost and Found Reports can be filed by using the online report or by visiting the shelter in person. Reports will not be taken over the phone.

Even though there are times we are closed to the public we are here 365 days a year and will always return phone messages regarding lost/found animals.
Submitting a Lost or Found Animal Report
If you have lost or found a pet, please fill out the form below. A member of our team will be in contact with you if a potential match is found.
Please Note:
- Lost Reports are held for 30 days if a photo is submitted and 2 weeks if a photo is not submitted
- Photos can be emailed to The Lost & Found Department
- It is the responsibility of the animal’s owner to renew their lost report, to keep contact information up to date and to maintain communication with the shelter.
- Leaving a lost report with the shelter does not guarantee the return of your lost pet and there is always a chance of error such as; the description given by the owner or the finder, the location of where the animal was lost or found and lack of permanent identification on the animal.
